Change Options within SecureNetTerm to function like NetTerm

03/31/11 | by Helewix.com Webmaster [mail] | Categories: SecureNetTerm and NetTerm

I had the following issue in my environment and managed to figure it out, so I thought that I would share it with you:

QUESTION:
I have got a somewhat different request today, but you will need to have a bit of background before my question is raised, so here we go:

Current Application: NetTerm 4.2.e.4
New Application: SecureNetTerm 6.5.2.1

We are currently using NetTerm 4.2.e.4 to connect to our Unix Systems. Each user has got a Unix username and password that they use to logon to the application. Now every month user need to change their passwords, which works perfectly in NetTerm as it first prompts you for your original password and then prompts you to put in a new password if your password has expired. After which it will log in to the application and the user can continue as normal.

Now we want all users to start using SecureNetTerm 6.5.2.1 for obvious reasons (Security).
When using SecureNetTerm everything is fine up until the users password expires as SecureNetTerm uses a pop-up that prompts you for your username and password, and when entering your credentials it does not accept the password (Old or New) and thus users have to log into NetTerm to reset their password before they can continue to use SecureNetTerm.

So I want to know if anyone has got a way to change the password prompt from being a pop-up box to rather have it embedded to look the same as NetTerm as I would think that this might solve the problem. If you are of the opinion that this will not resolve the problem and have any other possible solutions I would appreciate it.

Some extra Info:
1. We are currently using the SSH-2 Protocol to authenticate with SecureNetTerm.
2. All Users are using Windows Operating systems with the SecureNetTerm Application.
3. Our Development Guys do not want to use Kerberos Authentication as this would mean that they would have to make changes to their application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER:
Use the SecureNetTerm "Keyboard Interactive" authentication. This allows two-way conservation required for password changes.
